Spend a day exploring the sake brewing history of Saijō, the storied brewing region of Hiroshima, visiting many of the breweries along the main street of the town. You learn about the emergence of premium ginjō sake with an exclusive introduction from a master brewer at Kamotsuru. Lunch is a hotpot flavoured with sake. In nearby Akitsu, you visit a shrine celebrating the region’s sake which features a statue of Miura Senzaburō, who revolutionised sake brewing.
Meet your guide at Saijō Station and travel by private vehicle to the sake brewing district. At the Kamotsuru Brewery, you're treated to an exclusive tour of the brewery by a master brewer where you learn about the history of ginjō sake.
Lunch is at the Kamotsuru restaurant. On the menu is hotpot flavoured with sake and a risotto made of rice grown for sake brewing.
Stroll around the area visiting some of the other breweries. The brewery architecture is strikingly beautiful, and you can enjoy tastings and conversation with brewery staff.
Drive to Akitsu, home of ginjō sake, and visit Sakakiyama Hachiman Shrine where the spirit of sake pioneer Miura Senzaburō is celebrated.
